Children's Day (May 5)

Today is a national Holiday called "Children's Day -子供の日".

One can notice the Koi streamer (Carp like flag) on some places. It is a symbol of strength and wishes to be successful in life. Too bad, it rained the whole day so, most of the streamers I've seen are almost indoors.

12,000 Yen from Japanese Govt

I just received a letter indicating that I can receive12,000 from Japanese Govt. I don't know the idea about this, but a Japanese friend told me, that they (the Japanese govt) are giving it, so people can spend more (but actually, they would increase value added tax). Well, maybe it is not a bad idea, but there would always be an eye for every actions. Why do that? They can just use the money for something else. I think I'm not someone who should question them, anyway Japan's economy is much better among other asian country, so to speak. But, if I would to speak my own opinion, I would just suggest that they use those money to support NPO. Not many Japanese (and non Japanese too) would rather spend their time doing community work, when they can just earn money.

And of course, everything comes with cost attached, not all the kindness can save us, no matter how much we are willing to offer, we still need money. But those people, just wanted to see the less fortunates to have a sign of hope and learn to stand on their own feets. Maybe goverment already provide some help.

What will you do if you happen to receive 12,000 yen. (around 120 USD)

Vulture's craving: The hunt for half-price foods

Everyone in Japan, be it Foreigners or Japanese, might have known this before, but the foods from supermarkets sell from 10% off to 50%, when the night comes.

These are foods that are cooked on that same day, but since nobody would buy it, they would rather it at a lower cost than throwing it in waste. The food is OK, and very far from spoilage.

Here is how it looks like.

The one on the left shows the kanji for "HALF-PRICE". Usually, you can see the original price and will just apply it upon payment. On the right side, this meal is 20% off. So if is 500 yen, you only have to pay 400 yen for it.
Also, remember how do HALF-PRICE looks like, you can also see it on other things like clothings, etc.
